MapDruid keeps as little as it can. There are no analytics, no advertising, no tracking pixels, and nothing about you is sold or handed to anyone for marketing. This page says plainly what is stored, who else touches it, and how to have it removed.
One person keeps this atlas. Any question about this page, or about anything held about you, goes to them.
You are given no cookies at all. Not on the home page, the atlas, a map, a place page, or even the sign-in page.
A handful of things are saved in your own browser's local storage. They stay on your machine, they are readable by you, and they are never collected or sent anywhere as a set:
None of it identifies you, and clearing site data in your browser removes all of it.
An account exists so your reading position follows you between devices, and so you can propose corrections to the maps. Making one stores your email address, and either a hashed password or the fact that you sign in through Google.
Kept against your account:
While you are signed in your browser holds a session cookie so the site knows it is still you. Signing out clears it.
Email is used to run the account and nothing else — confirming your address, resetting a password. There is no newsletter, and you will not be written to about anything you did not ask for.
An account comes with a public page, at your mark. It shows the display name you have set, your mark, the day you joined, how many corrections you have proposed and how many were accepted, and the corrections themselves — what you changed, on which map, and when.
It does not show your email address or how far you have read. Corrections that were declined, or that you withdrew, are shown only to you, on your account page.
Until one of your corrections has been accepted, that page is not offered to search engines. Once one has, the page and your line on the roll of contributors can be found through search.
If you change your mark, the old one is kept. Links written down before the change still lead to your page, and nobody else can take a mark your work was filed under.
You can see and change your display name and your reading position yourself, on your account page. For anything further — a copy of everything held about you, a correction, or deletion — write to the address in the rail and it will be done.
Deleting an account removes the account itself, your email address, your mark, your public page, your reading positions, your votes, and any correction still waiting or already declined. It cannot be undone.
One thing outlives it, with nothing of you left on it. A correction that was accepted has already changed the maps, and the atlas keeps the record of that change so it can still be explained years later — but your name and your mark are taken off it, and it is no longer joined to you or to any account. What remains is a coordinate, not a person. Comments you posted are emptied of their words in the same way, rather than deleted outright, because a reply someone else wrote underneath would be destroyed along with them.
If you are in the UK or the EU, these are your rights under the GDPR, and you may complain to your national data protection authority. Your data is held to run an account you asked for, and to keep the atlas working.
MapDruid is not directed at children under 13, and accounts are not knowingly created for them. If one has been, write in and it will be removed.
This page changes when the site does, and the date in the rail says when it was last checked against what the code actually does.
