What happened here
- First sight of Tar Valon
The River Queen reaches the island city, and Egwene and Nynaeve climb from the docks toward the White Tower.
- Nynaeve's testing
Deep beneath the Tower, Nynaeve must pass through three silver arches to be raised to Accepted.
- New friends in the Tower
On her first day as a novice, Egwene finds a friend in Andor's Daughter-Heir and an old acquaintance from Baerlon.
- A summons from Liandrin
A Red sister comes to Egwene's room with word that the boys from home are in danger, and a way to reach them.
- Back to the White Tower
Verin leads the party through Darein and over the great bridge to a side gate of the Tower, where the Mistress of Novices is waiting for her runaways.
- Verin's report to the Amyrlin
Siuan Sanche sends even her Keeper out of the study to hear, alone, what Verin has carried back from Falme.
- A secret task from the Amyrlin
Kept back after Elayne is sent off, Egwene and Nynaeve hear what the Amyrlin means to do about Liandrin and the twelve who fled with her, and why she needs the two of them.
- A Gray Man in the Tower
Climbing back up to the empty novices' galleries after the audience, Egwene and Nynaeve do not know someone is watching them from across the open well.
- Mat's Healing
Deep beneath the Tower, the Amyrlin and her sisters gather around Mat with one of the Tower's strongest sa'angreal, while Egwene, Nynaeve and Elayne watch from the wall.
- Two visitors for Mat
Still weak and set on slipping away, Mat has two callers that night, a beautiful stranger in white and then the Amyrlin herself.
- A summons from Verin
Called late at night to Verin's cluttered rooms above the library, Egwene hears about a world that lies inside dreams, and leaves with something she must keep hidden.
- Egwene's testing
Caught in a corridor with the stone ring still in her pouch, Egwene learns she is to pass through the three silver arches tonight, and is hurried deep beneath the Tower.
- A wager at the practice yard
Scouting the Tower grounds for a way off the island, Mat wanders into the Warders' practice yard just as Gawyn and Galad break from their drill.
- A novice's message
While the three are going over Verin's lists in Nynaeve's room yet again, a novice appears in the doorway with a message, and Egwene runs after her.
- The storeroom under the library
Acting on the message, the three slip in by a labourers' door beneath the library and go two levels down, to a storeroom door that someone has lately chained shut.
- Into the World of Dreams
With the stone ring on a cord round her neck, and Nynaeve and Elayne keeping watch by her bed in the dark, Egwene goes to sleep looking for answers about the Black Ajah.
- A favour for the Daughter-Heir
Nynaeve, Egwene and Elayne turn up in Mat's room after breakfast, suspiciously cheerful, with something they want him to do.
- The Amyrlin in the kitchens
When the Amyrlin storms through the Tower kitchens in a temper, Nynaeve, sweating at the roasting spit, at last gets the quiet word with her she has been waiting for.
